It's Never Too Late To Begin Again

In any given moment we are faced with two choices - do we step forward to growth, change and the possibility of everything we have ever dared hope and dream for? OR do we step back to safety, and same old same old, hamster wheel life? There is always a choice and just remembering that for a moment can be so so freeing. Even if you feel “stuck” you never are. Even if you feel like you cannot “renew”, you always can. And as human beings living in bodies that are truly INCREDIBLE - the same goes for our skin.

Skin cells renew every  27 days or so, like most things in our worlds our skin is part of a carefully balanced cycle. Having made it through the depths of winter we are now fully into Spring and that time where it feels natural to “shed” and come out of our skin, almost quite literally. So not only is Spring a great time to start treating your skin in a way that supports the feeling of renewal and replenishment, it’s also a great time to make any or all of those life changes you gave been holding off of;-)

“Change is not something we should fear, rather it is something we should welcome, for without change nothing in this world would ever grow or blossom and no one in this world would ever move forward to become the person they are supposed to be” B.K.S IYENGAR

Read on for our top tips on renewing and rejuvenating tired, dull winter skin.

Exfoliate regularly with restorative kind scrubs.

Our skin is constantly shedding so in order to get it completely ready for the sun and being exposed we need to help this process along, to remove that dry top layer and reveal the good stuff.

This restorative scrub from Soap Factory with orange oil and rosemary will make your skin shine and smell amazing. Rosemary soothes sensitive and irritated areas, and almond and coconut nourishing oils soften and smooth the skin. Tender sugar crystals are the best natural scrubs, softly removing dead cells and smoothing dry areas without feeling scratchy. It’s suitable for the face and body so why not do yourself a favour top to toe and slough away in the shower or bath?

We also love the gorgeous Balm Balm hibiscus face mask  - its a bit of a wonder two-in-one product. The wonderfully gentle yet effective combination of brown rice flour, ground hibiscus and rose geranium essential oil, make the perfect mask to deep cleanse AND exfoliate your skin.

Stay hydrated from the outside in and the inside out

This is especially important as the weather warms up, our delicate skin can be exposed to dehydration. Masks can be great to inject some moisture back into the skin, and our Skin Hydrating Facial Masque from Sukin is rich in Mango Seed Butter and a blend of Avocado, Olive Fruit and Jojoba Oils to nourish and provide intense moisture to the skin. Enzymes of Papaya and Pineapple nourish the complexion and impart fruit acids and vitamins, leaving skin feeling smooth with a healthy glow. Sounds delicious!

Aside from treating skin from the outside in, we need to take control of what we are putting into our bodies and make sure that we are drinking enough water. our bodies are made of up to 60% water. According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%.  Therefore Dehydration will affect every function your body attempts to carry out. If you struggle to remember to drink water do these things:

  • Take a pint of water to bed and drink it as soon as you wake up
  • Get into the habit of carrying a bottle of water with you everywhere
  • Leave a bottle of water in the car to sip whilst driving
  • If you have an office job, keep a 1.5 litre bottle at your desk and aim to drink the entire thing every day
  • Start your day with my health elixir of warm water, lemon, turmeric, ginger & honey to alkalise, detoxify and hydrate in one fell swoop :-)

We also have a range of floral waters that do a great job of immediately bringing a little moisture and dewiness to parched skin, great when your skin is in need of a little wake-up and “life” we highly recommend a spritz of rose water, from Alteya Organics.

Dehydration can also come in the form of too little fat

...where your skin feels literally scaley, drawn and tight. Try to include lots of omega 3 fatty acids in your diet as this will literally plump your skin from the inside out as Omega-3 essential fatty acids are one of the basic building blocks of the brain and unlike many nutrients, our bodies cannot produce it - this means you must consume it in your diet. Omega-3 fatty acids also enhance your mood: Healthy brains and nerve cells depend on omega-3s because the nervous system is made mostly of fat. The signals that travel through our flesh—feelings, thoughts, commands to our bodies—skip along cells and their arms sheathed in fat. Great things to include in your diet are walnuts, flaxseeds, chia seeds, coconut oil, hemp seeds and wild fish. Aside from this, our Wooden Spoon Organic Youth Rejuvenating Elixir from Nature is a super product to include in your regime for summer to protect against free radicals and combat dryness. It contains Rosehip Oil, one of the best vegetable oil sources of omega 3 and is also significant source of omega 6, both essential fatty acids collectively known as vitamin F, involved in cellular membrane and tissue regeneration and normalising skin with large pores.

And finally, remember to care for your delicate skin in the sun, during (with adequate protection) and after, with some after sun care. We have a wonderful range from Wooden Spoon that will cover all bases, as well as being completely natural and organic.

So that’s it from us today! Remember - hydrate, hydrate, hydrate some more and consider our wonder summer products: exfoliator, hydrating masks, floral waters and sun care. Thank you for reading and we hope you have a lovely day.
